Yo-Yo Recovery Test.
Measure an athlete's ability to repeatedly perform high-intensity 20-metre shuttle runs with short active recovery periods as the required running speed progressively increases.
Test Protocol
Standardised Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery procedure
The Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1 is designed to assess an athlete's ability to repeatedly perform intense shuttle running with short active recovery. The athlete runs between two lines 20 metres apart in time with an audio signal, followed by a brief active recovery period before the next run. The running speed progressively increases until the athlete can no longer maintain the required pace.
The Yo-Yo family contains multiple versions, including Intermittent Recovery Level 1 and Level 2. This page is structured around Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Level 1. Always use the same audio recording, course layout and scoring convention when comparing results over time.

EVOLVE Performance Pathway
Where this test fits in the platform
The Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test provides a repeatable measure of an athlete's ability to perform repeated high-intensity running with limited recovery. It can eventually connect with athlete profiles, historical results and training recommendations.
